July/2012 – We are delighted to secure bridge funding from Alberta Cancer Foundation, in response to an operating grant submitted to CIHR ($100,000 for 1 year). Dr. Uludag and Dr. Aliabadi are the project co-leaders for this grant. The project, entitled A Systematic Approach to Breaking Drug Resistance in Cancer Therapy, will allow us to pursue siRNA therapy for breast cancer. Using native and drug-resistant breast cancers, we will identify molecular targets responsible drug resistance and the devise schemes to silence such targets in order to re-sensitize the cancer cells to therapy. This investment from a publicly-funded agency will facilitate translation of our basic research to a clinical setting.
